As In RebekkaMaria - She Lion

"It's two thirty four and we kiss kiss kiss"

I've got some strange Scandinavian electro today (is there really any other kind?). While I'm not completely sold on the entire solo record by Rebekka Maria, her poppier moments are definitely worth a listen, especially if you're a fan of artists like Robyn or my dear Pikko. What I love the most about this artist is her sense of style. How I wish that American artists made an attempt to stand out and be different (and, no, sports jerseys and giant "bling" around the neck doesn't count). Can you imagine if someone like this suddenly had a top ten single here? I'm not sure if that can happen nowadays, but I hope so. This is definitely an album to buy in its physical copy, if only for the pictures!

Goodfinger - Radio Perfecto

"Beg me to be tamed"

Strangely, I couldn't really find any good pictures of the entire band, but this is Goodfinger's brilliant vocalist, who goes by the name Melody Sweets when she's singing as a solo act (and be sure to check out her song Is That So Wrong, which is very Goldfrappoliscious). Anyway, she is a wonderfully unique singer and lends the bands' otherwise normal pop/rock tracks an edge that makes them stand out from the pack. I love this track, which kind of reminds me of a cross between Blondie and Goldfrapp with a Spanish influence. The only downside is that, while I adore the vocals in this, they are extremely difficult to understand. I had a hell of a time getting the lyrics to post under the picture!

Surferosa - Entebbe (Kampala City)

"Increase your abilities"

Yay for Surferosa being back with a new album! I have no idea why these guys aren't bigger than they are. I've always considered them Norway's answer to Sweden's The Sounds, except Mariann is far stranger than Maja as a vocalist and the group's songs deal with much odder topics (an obsession with Japanese manga, for instance). The new album is sounding great, and nothing's better than this BRILLIANT track. If Gwen Stefani had released something like this, we'd all be falling over ourselves to praise her, and it's sad to know that not many people will probably hear this given that it's released by Surferosa. Enteppe is an ultra catchy, ultra weird pop song that moves from African influences to Go-Go's style melodies, to chugging guitar and synth. It is completely flawless, and insanely catchy from the get-go (without seeming over-familiar). Surferosa are back, and now's the time to discover them if you haven't already!

I just listened to the Juvelen album!

Lucky for us, today Juvelen has released his entire debut album 1, for listening on myspace. Let me say, even after one listen, it is amazing... like possibly best of the year so far. Plus, after nearly a year I'm finally able to figure out which song I heard live last June at Hultsfred (it was Money Don't Talk, and boy is that a ferociously odd track in studio version), a mystery which has been bugging me for some time.

Let me know what you guys think of this record. I, for one, am incredibly impressed.
Blondfire - Oxygen

"You're oxygen to me"

Growing up, the Cardigans' First Band On The Moon was one of my favorite albums (predating my love for Swedish pop, even), so this new American band brings back a lot of memories. The reason for this is, they sound pretty much exactly like an electro-Cardigans. If that sounds good to you, listen to Oxygen, which has a stunningly beautiful sound. The duo are brother and sister Erica and Bruce Driscoll, and their music has a gentle tone to it that's perfect for a summer day lazing around outdoors. They seem to be getting a lot of good press and apparently they had a free song up on itunes awhile back but I missed it. Definitely not something that's going to set radio dials alight, but completely worthy nonetheless.

Your Vegas - I Wish You Were Somewhere Else

"It only hits you when you close your eyes"

Your Vegas released their debut record quietly last week on digital format only (it'll be out in physical format at the end of this month). It's one of the better albums released so far this year, definitely... maybe even one of the best. Fans of the Killers or any 80's new wave group will find plenty to love and I've already posted Troubled Times on this blog, which is on the shortlist of 2008's perfect songs. Not everything on the album is that flawless, but there is a surprising amount of fantastic stuff there. One of my other favorites is I Wish You Were Somewhere Else, which has a great, interesting melody. The sound reminds me of Elkland, one of the first bands ever posted on Alienhits.

Yeah, I know it's off topic, but I couldn't hold back any longer...

My roommate and I have been watching this for months. Seriously, over a hundred times at least. It is my favorite youtube video ever. It is legendary. It should be circulated all over the world and on all tv stations. It brings me such incredible happiness, I can't even describe it.
